i just started child fellowship and i think my program is way too much work. I want to not continue for other reasons as well but
i am not sure if i can get out of the contract. does anyone know how that works, who's deciison it is to let you out of it--the pd or the gme office
and what steps to take to successfully leave with as few consequences as possible
all answers appreciated thnk u

The first issue is whether or not you completed your PGY4 year. If not, you need to figure out if you can go back to your old program and complete it or scramble for a PGY4 slot somewhere. Or tough it out for a year and call it a day--you don't have to finish child fellowship, just 4 yrs of training to practice in adult.

The next thing is... have you talked to your co-fellows? Your cheif? Your director? maybe you're just feeling overwhelmed. What specifically feels like too much work? The first year of child can be very confidence-shaking. Dealing with parents and all of the systems issues in child is a whole new ball of wax.

We had a fellow leave after our first year and it sucked for the rest of us--more work, more call, less time on cool rotations, more time on consult👎. You'll be leaving a lot of bad feelings in your wake, should you leave, and you need to be prepared for that.
