I finally got a position outside of CVS, (goverment job). The only thing is that it had a significant pay cut (about 20 percent). Thinking about staying with cvs part time to supplement. Any one have any experience working part time with cvs ?

I do it. Basically, when my scheduler has absolutely nobody to close a store, they call me to go in 6pm-9pm. The main reason I do this is that I relocated, and now my rate of pay is well above the appropriate level for the region. By staying in the system, I've got that salary locked in if I need to go back to the bench.

You have to consider quality of life as well. Although you can pull in the extra cash by working the extra hours, you will pay taxes on the extra money. And do you really want to work 6-7 days a week? Just a thought. I quit practicing when I got my government job and have never looked back. Anytime I watch some of my coworkers swinging the 2 job lifestyle I just sort of scratch my head.

For me, every day that passes is another day where returning to CVS becomes even more unfathomable. You can always find per diem work at another company. I even know people who work for Wags and do per diem for Walmart

If you do stay PRN with CVS, the biggest perk is holidays for the PRN folk. They will pay you double the hourly wage when you work a holiday, but won't do that for regular staff pharmacists. I've stayed PRN with CVS, but I have to regularly tell the scheduler when I'm available or they usually just assume that I'm not available, which is actually kind of nice as well because they don't bother me much. Probably depends a lot on who your DM and scheduler are as to how much or little they will want you to work.

Does this depend on the state?

I wouldn't think it's state specific. Most pay rules seem to apply to everyone across the nation (night shift premium starts after midnight everywhere, same holidays are observed no matter the state, etc.). I'd check with your scheduler to confirm.

Part timers do not get double wage for holidays in many states. My state is 1.5. Still a nice bonus but not double. In addition my sup and scheduler will not schedule part timers for Sundays or holidays because they don't want to pay the higher rate.
