Hey all I have an attending that is really grinding my basic chemistry knowledge and I have been trying to find the answer to this question and am running out of luck and time:
What is the material that is packaged inside of a chromic catgut suture, what gives it that smell, is it's purpose an antioxidant, and what happens if it were not packaged in there? My efforts have been fruitless in yielding a quick answer to this and would really appreciate any knowledge anyone has on this!
