Getting Recommendations BEFORE AADSAS opens

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well, you need to make sure that all your LOR writers are willing to have your completed letters doen by May 15th.

If they all agree to do this and they all actually do it, then on May 15th, as soon as you open your AADSAS account and enter in the name of your LOR writers, you can print off the LOR matching forms. You would then give the LOR matching forms to you letter writers so that they can send the matching form and LOR together in the mail to AADSAS (probably should give an stamped and addressed envelope to them)

If, on the other hand, you have a service at your school, like a prehealth dept. or a career services that compiles your LORs for you, you would ask that all the LOR writers submit their LORs to the letter service by May 15th. Then you take the same Matching forms to the LOR service at your school and ask that your LORs go out with the matching forms to AADSAS.

It is a wise Idea to talk to profs who you think would write you a good letter way in advance. Establish some kind of relaitionship even if it is not much more then a polite hello. When I was taking some of my pre reqs I aproached my teachers shortly after the semester and talked to them. I even had one teacher bring it up to me in a conversation If I wanted a letter. You are wise to be thinking of this now, personaly I had more then 3-4 profs to write me a science letter, I had a hard time thinking of someone to write me a letter from the humanities.

if you have a prehealth advisor/coordinator then you might send all your letters to that person where she/he will keep a file of your letters ready to be sent to AADSAS come june.

or

you can open up an account at a site like interfolio.com, where you can keep all your letters in an electronic file. you don't need to attach the AADSAS form that comes with your app, they only really need your name to match up your letters with your AADSAS app.

You definitley don't have to send your letters through AADSAS. I didn't. I got all of my letters done in April and didn't have to deal with AADSAS taking forever with them. A lot of larger schools have a database that holds your letters and will send them directly to your school. They also provide you with a form pretty much identical to the one AADSAS provides.
If you don't have access to one of these you can contact your professors and have them write the letters and then provide them with the form when it becomes available. THe more time you give your letter writer the better. THey get really swamped at the end of the semester.

I'm assuming that the AADSAS makes copies of the LOR you send in? If you are applying to 15 schools you don't need to send them 15 copies of each LOR, right?

Thats right.

AADSAS sends a copy of your entire application to the schools. There are two or three schools that don't take AADSAS plus the Texas schools have their own application process. AADSAS can and does lose LORs and Transcripts so make sure you send in matching forms with these documents.

Hey guys...I read this on the ADEA website...

"Evaluators are now able to submit letters of evaluation to AADSAS in printed hard copy or via an online submission process—check the Letters of Evaluation section of the AADSAS 2008 application for specific instructions."

This is something that is new for 2008. I found it here:

http://www.adea.org/DAS/AADSAS/Applicants/AppPreparing.html

This is kinda cool...

There are some other new changes that you might want to check out...

When do these matching forms become available? When we register for AADSAS? I won't be in town in mid May when AADSAS opens to give a matching form to my comittee chair...
