Hey guys...been reading over your posts, and Id like to get some of your advice...im a second time applicant with 4 years of research experience. I had one interview this time around, and im still waiting for any decision on that. In the mean time, Im not sure if I should apply to postbacs/SMP programs just in case. Im interested in a program where i can take some med school courses and prove myself as a student. I think that's where my application falls short. There's a nice upward trend in my grades, and Im sure I can continue getting A's in an SMP program. Any thoughts/suggestions on a perfect program for me aside from g-town, drexel? Preferrably a one year program on the west coast with linkage...BTW, what's "glide" year? 😕

man this is an old post but I figured i should reply to this...

i heard Wake Forest has a good SMP program and so does Boston University (but it's a special Master's program)... try UCSF, UCLA, UCSD, and UCI... all of these have a SMP program...

I suggest that you wait though... I don't know if you've gotten other interviews yet since this is an old post but honestly there are tons in cali... even try Scripps!

glide year is taking time off... right.. but that is what i'm getting... from all the posts and stuff...

Not quite. When you submit AMCAS in the summer, you are applying for admission a year from then (eg if you submitted in June '06, you would if admitted start school in Aug '07). Thus if you did a program that ended on the usual academic calendar, (i.e. ended May or June of a given year), and then submitted the AMCAS right after that, you still have a year to fill before you can start anyplace. That is the glide year. It's thus a year between your postbac/SMP/whatever, and when you actually start med school. Hope that helps.
