i noticed alot of people on these boards and profiles from predents.com had almost 100+ hours of shadowing a dentist. I was just wondering how you guys got these positions? I am looking for something to do during the summer and though i'd like it to be a paid internship, i'll take a non-paid shadowing op as well. Thanks for your help.

volunteer at a community health center, learn how to assist, hope that someone quits, and hope that they'll hire you. Thats what I did.

get ready to volunteer. unless you have experience a dentist who is running a business will probably not pay you to learn. if he does it'll probably be something boring like sterilization all day long. if you really need money, try to shadow two days a week and work another job for the other four. because if you follow the dentist around and watch procedures, treatment planning, etc that will probably more interesting than sterilizing and i'll doubt that he'll pay you for watching him
