Getting Supplementals: What does it really mean?

Like the title asks....what does it mean when you get supplementals? Are they considered a green light for your GPA and MCAT score? Or does it all depend on the policies of the schools you received them from? Or do they mean nothing?!

A supplemental (or secondary) application is a school-specific application. Most schools require a supplemental in addition to the primary (AMCAS, TMDSAS). Each school has its own policy as to whom to grant supplementals. Most schools give supplementals to everyone who submits a primary. Some schools give them out to those whose MCAT/GPA are above a certain value. Others (Vanderbilt) give them out only to those they plan on interviewing. So, to answer your question, it depends.

For the majority of schools it means that you have a pulse and a checkbook.
For a select few schools it actually indicates interest.
