For the schools that screen, if you got past the screening, does that mean you actually havea shot of getting into the school?

I'm not sure if I understand your question. If you get past the screening process, you are obviously still in the running. So what exactly do you want to know?

An interview = legit chance of acceptance.

OP correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure he/she is referring to schools that screen based on gpa/mcat, make cuts, and then assess the entire application. So making it past the screening process does not guarantee an interview.

I think what uclaussr wants to know is if getting an interview means you have already overcome the most selective part of admission

you have a better shot than if you hadn't got passed the screening! 😀

Not necessarily...the screening at many schools is pretty low (<27 MCAT and <3.0-3.2 GPA). Only a small fraction of those who pass the screen will receive an interview.

True, but there are schools that actually look at your whole AMCAS and make strict decisions on whether or not to send you a secondary. Wayne State does this, and I think that Loyola does, too. (Someone can correct me on that.)

Is the screen solely based on GPA and MCAT?

I think it depends on the school like the above poster said. School's like Vanderbilt take a lot of time to consider your app before sending a secondary as a secondary invite is attached to an interview offer. I'm sure the majority of schools that do have a screen use mostly GPA/MCAT criteria. Does anyone know how strict the screening process is for UCLA and UCSF? Is it mostly gpa/mcat or do they consider the whole application?

I would also like to know about UCLA and UCSF screening process because I've been waiting on them for weeks now and I'm already complete at the other UC's. People with lower stats than me have been getting screened in within days of getting an initial contact email from these schools. They must be looking at the entire application...which now worries me because maybe my app is lacking.
