i'd like to be able to get to UC irvine by train or public transit. any suggestions please? I would be arriving on a monday evening and do NOT want to drive in rush hour.

You can take Amtrak to the Irvine Amtrak Station and then take a taxi to UCI; I don't know precisely where you're coming from. I think the taxi ride will probably cost you $15.00. If you take the bus it may take a while to get to UCI.

where are you arriving from? when are you coming? I live in the area and might be able to give you a ride from AMTRAK to UCI (free).

i live in los angeles but relatively near union station, and i just do NOT want to deal with rush hour traffic to irvine. that would be an incredibly nice offer, but no pressure!

Amtrak in Southern California is notorious for being late. I'd be very uncomfortable for relying on them.

Bite the bullet, go to bed early, set the alarm, and leave before rush hour. You can leave LA by 6:30 a.m. and be in Irvine by 7:30 a.m. Get some breakfast, get in your game space and kill the interview. Standing by the side of train tracks wondering where your train is will not help stress levels.

Hope the inteview goes well...

Scary for the OP or me? I carry a lot of pepper spray...😉 Plus, I'm guessing we share the same alma mater (UCLA)??... so it's all good.

Monday evening? Your interview is Tuesday?

I'm confused what you're arriving for and when you need to be there.

Like someone else said - the trains aren't that reliable and if you meant you're arriving monday morning for an interview then you're going to be running the risk of the train being late.

I drove the 1.5 hrs from my parents house to UCI the day of my interview. Left at 5:15 was in Irvine before traffic started. I sat around for 45 minutes in the local starbucks and then went to my interview.

If you really mean you're arriving Monday night for something then just leave after rush hour ends.

I really wouldn't recommend the trains or any OTCA public transit - its terrible.

Good point. Let e-buddies remain e-buddies until you've met them in a nice public place with lots of witnesses.

Avoiding the need for pepper spray will always do you more good than the pepper spray itself.

There are trains and public transportation in SoCal? You must be kidding me. I've lived in CA my entire life and I don't know such thing. My advice to you: own/rent a car like everyone else. 😀

I was thinking the same thing!!!! I've been in CA for a long time...I've NEVER even heard of anyone riding a train?!?
