just wondering what those of you who have interviewed have done to get to the school. I'm landing at midway airport, and am supposed to meet my host at the school. I know public transport is easy, but so are shuttles (and more expensive)..any thoughts?

Take the El (the train). It's really easy and cheap: only $1.50. When you get to Midway airport, make your way to the CTA. I think it's on the 3rd floor but there should be signs. Keep following the signs until you get to the train station. Buy a ticket. You will be on the orange line, the only train that is at that station. Take the orange line until you get to the "loop." At the loop, transfer to the red line (towards Howard) and take the red line to the Chicago stop. When you get off the train, walk up the stairs and walk directly forward through the revolving metal bar gate thing. Take the escalator up. Walk down the street until you hit Chicago. Take a right on Chicago so that you are heading east towards the lake. The school is on your right. Walk in and head straight through the first two set of doors. The admissions office is on your right side.

I hope I got that all right =) You can double check with the admissions office if you are worried about the directions. Hope this helps.

you beat me to it - that would definitely be the cheapest and easiest.

Sweet, I could use this info too.

Now, where can I find a cheap way to get to Chicago from NYC 🙄.

Options:
260 dollars = 2 hour plane ride
135 dollars = 17 hour bus ride.

Not like it's a big deal, but the CTA just changed it's price from 1.50 to 1.75...also it's a good thing when you buy your ticket to put enough on it for the return trip- just don't lose the card.

it's a bit out of the way, but I've flown from LI-islip to midway and it's about 200-250 depending on how far in advance you get the ticket. Use southwest-- they also have a great frequent flier deal, so sign up if you use them.

Thanks duka.

I'll look into it.

CTA >>> MTA(NYC). I really enjoyed riding the CTA in Chicago and I can see where the MTA got the idea for their metrocard from. I transfered to the red-line at Roosevelt instead of the Loop.

Btw,

NORTHWESTERN ROCKS!

If you have a lot of luggages or don't wanna get lost in the subway system, Airport Express (Shuttle) to Downtown area is $16 a trip

Quick note: The El stop is a few blocks away from the school. You've gone too far if you get to the lake, but you have to cross Michigan Avenue. Here's the CTA site if you want to see the route:

Be sure to type in the address for Northwestern so they don't direct you to the Evanston campus.

PS A cab ride will be about $25-35 if you decide to go that route.

just to clarify what she meant....Northwestern has a downtown campus(for grad schools, law, journalism, med, etc.) and it has an undergrad campus in Evanston(north of the medical school and Northwestern Memorial Hospital).

So when you enter the address on mapquest or whatever you use just make sure to put the address of the medical school and/or medical center.

I once hosted a student who took the "L" to the evanston campus. In fact, when I interviewed I almost took the subway to the undergrad too because if you ask around natives will point you to the evanston campus and not the medical center. You have to specify when you are asking for directions that you are headed to the medical school which is near the Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

hey UCLAMAN, I was wondering how the financial aid is like. NU didn't give us a financial aid presentation, just stuffed something in our packet. My biggest concern for NU is $$$, otherwise, it's an awesome school.

from what i hear financial aid isnt as generous as it is at other schools...makes no difference for me since my parents make too much to get any significant financial aid. but if u would qualify for a significant amount of aid u may get more help from other schools. i would wait to pass judgment when you actually get your financial aid breakdown.
