First time applicant here

i have used one of those Excel AMCAS GPA calculators but would like to know what my AMCAS GPA actually is which I will know after my application gets verified. Do you have to designate which schools you want to apply to when you hit submit for the AMCAS? How does the whole timeline work?
Is it:
submit > get verified and find out GPA > then designate schools

or

submit and designate schools > get verified and find out GPA > designated schools get my AMCAS as soon as it's verified

edit: if you know what the timeline for the AACOMAS is also, please let me know

You need to designate your schools before you submit, as after you submit your transcripts get verified and then your application is automatically sent to the schools you have designated. However, you can also add schools to the list after submitting your app for extra $, so just make your list as complete as possible and if you want to add/remove schools later on you can rest assured that there are ways to do that.

Edit: adding a new school will require recertification of your application, but there's no real delay there as there is with initial verification. Source: https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas/faqs/147904/aftersub_shared_2.1.html

Edit 2: if you just make sure you're really diligent about your independent GPA calculation, your AMCAS GPA should be almost exactly what you predicted. IIRC mine was within 0.02 of my calculations.

No I didn't, I had been calculating my GPA all along so I just made sure my DIY calculations fit the AMCAS rules.

Words cannot describe how I will feel on the day I change my avatar.
