Getting waitlisted for interviews

Hey, what is going on here... I'm getting a lot of interview invites by e-mail only to e-mail them back sometime that same day to be told they have no interview dates available and they'll put me on the waitlist.

What is going on or what am I doing wrong?

How long after their email is sent do you send your reply?

If it's within a few hours, yeah, that's strange.

If it's a day or longer, then you're taking too long.

You gotta check your email religiously during the interview season - at least once an hour.

Agreed...

like airlines, programs offer more interview positions than there are slots available, knowing some will decline and some will not show up.

Check the times when the emails are sent...I have found with some IPs (Hotmail was notorious) that emails can take hours to arrive, sometimes days. At any rate, as Blade notes, you have to check your email at every opportunity. More than a few hours and its likely that everyone else invited has been checking and already responded to the email, leaving no spots open.

Yeah it's getting ridiculous. I responded after an hour and a half and one of the dates had already filled up. Was on the fence about another place, waited 3 days and a month had filled up.

Just remember that we are a neurotic bunch. Also, a lot of people get their e-mails straight to their cell phone these days meaning they can respond within minutes.

You definitely can't wait 3 days!

Again, I'd recommend checking at least hourly. No one I knew had Blackberries, and phone email wasn't that common then, but I'm sure some people would use that now.
