GI Match?

I have heard rumors that you will soon match directly into a GI program instead of doing Int med first. Has anyone else heard about this? If so, what are the details? 😕

Okay I am ******ed. Apparently GI fellowships are considering returning to a match format for choosing fellows from internal medicine residencies. As things stand now, you have to begin applying for GI fellowships by the end of your intern year. A match would allow you until late in your second year before you made that decision. They apparently had a fellowship match from 1986 until the late 90's but it fell apart for some reason. Sorry for posting and then answering my own question!
