I would like some advice in helping me decide which GI path book to buy.

1) Foundations in Diagnostic Pathology series: GI and Liver Pathology

2) Gastrointestinal Pathology: An Atlas and Text

3) Surgical Pathology of the GI Tract, Liver, Biliary Tract and Pancreas

Thank You.

What's your goal? Are you planning on GI as a focus of your career? Are you a younger resident who wants a good standard GI text for training purposes? All 3 of those books are solid, #1 is briefer and more to the point. You will get varying opinions on 2 and 3, but both are well respected.

I just started my residency. I want something thats going to give me everything I need to know about GI pathology. I am not sure if my career will focus on GI.

I really like the new Odze. Some people are put off by the structure (not organized first by organ) but I find that I don't even have to use the index anymore. For instance--question about IBD? Zip straight to "Inflammatory disorders of the colon". Question about GVHD? Go straight to the Immunodeficiency disorders section in the beginning.

I also have Fenoglio-Presier (spelling?) and the new non-tumor GI fascicle, but I don't use either as much as Odze.

I like the Odze. It has liver (and biliary tract/pancreas), Fenoglio doesn't.

I have a brand new red Fenoglio-Preiser GI book, which is very well written with good pics and clinical correlation. The only downside it does not have pancreas. I recommend WHO books on pancreas. Odze in the past has seemed a little superficial.

I am actually going into forensics and am considering selling my GI book if you are interested.
