i'm am getting ready to move to go to vet school and am leaving my clinic where i have been a tech for a year. i will probably not see these vets (husband and wife) for a long time b/c once i leave this town i have no reason to come back (no family, school etc).

what type of gift should i give to them? they have helped me so much this past year i want to thank them, but with something they would like/use often. i was thinking about two office chairs since theirs suck but that is pretty expensive. plaques are kinda nice but useless. um.... any suggestions? (my price range is prob $50 or less)

You could get them both a nice pen. It's something they could use everday and in your price range. I got a really nice and good quality pen for my high school graduation and I am still using it.

I got the vets I worked with bookends shaped like dachshunds. (That's what one of my dogs is.) They seemed to like them. Also a decorative clock might be nice. I've done that before.

How about a double-size batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies?

Seriously... The clinic I've been shadowing at is filled with pictures and plaques and thank-you gifts of one sort or another, all of which are displayed on the walls and dusted regularly by some poor receptionist. But *nothing* gets more appreciation from the entire staff than a plate of homemade goodies. 😀

That is a really cute clock. Food is also a GREAT idea for any overworked professional & their staff.

Personally, I'd try to spend some time looking around.. and I realize that time is becoming something that is quite sparse. It is nice and thoughtful of you to think about getting them nicer chairs... but chairs wear out and get tossed away.

If you take some time and browse around for something that suits each doctor individually you may come up with something that they will not necessarily cherish until their dying days, but something they may hold in a bit more esteem.

Two friends of mine went in together on several different things for the docs that are at our office. It was a bunch of small stuff that mainly were keepsakes for their offices/home. In particular were small desk-sized successory prints that had messages that reflected each doctors particular personality. There were also some cartoonish, ceramic cat figurines for one doctor from a Hall mark store. I can't remember much of the other gifts but I know that each of them also enclosed a hand-written letter about a page long reflecting on things they had been taught and showing sincere appreciation.

And on that note... I still don't know exactly what I am going to do for them!!! ;x

I'm a big fan of 'consumable' gifts...something they can enjoy together that is not going to collect dust on a shelf. how about a gift cert to their favorite restaurant, theatre tickets, etc.

I made my vets a huge batch of "ultimate" chocolate chip cookies. They really enjoyed them (the ingredients cost me well over 20 bucks, I made sure to get the good chocolate chips, etc) and it was something I put work into. I love cooking though, and I'm getting a name around the vet school for being the maker of "yummy goodness." That can backfire when your friends want dessert during study time! Anyway now I'm rambling, but if you like to cook, that works. Gift certificates to local restaurants are also a great idea, runner.

And I love that clock!

thanks everybody! i ordered some personalized pens today (we always fight over pens) and i will learn how to bake some kick ass brownies. 😀

My soon to be gift for the clinic I am currently at-- 2 words: Starbucks giftcard.

These people are hooked since we have one next door. Usually I am not a big fan of their coffee, but during a really really rough day last week nothing could have tasted better!
