Ok, so I've been accepted to NYU. Hurray! Whats the problem you ask? Well...I applied to 13 schools...and of the 13 schools only 3 (NYU included) have given me interviews!!! In addition NYU seemed to really want me-they got back to me 2 weeks after everything was complete ( in mid Oct.) asking for an interview.
So my question is....if NYU wants me so badly, why havent I gotten any other interviews??? So far I've I've had New Jersey med school and Mt. sinai is scheduled for feb. I handed in all my stuff to schools around the beginning of Nov....but I'm under the impression that schools don't want you unless they get back to you pretty quickly...
so...WHERE ARE THE INTERVIEWS??????AARRGGG!!!

you applied sorta late. some schools may not have reviewed your file yet or they may have reviewed it and put you on hold for later review.

thanks. I just think its so wierd that one good medical school would accept me so readily, while the other ones seem to think i'm doggy doo. I suppose I did send in stuff late, but at this point, its been 2 months and I hoped to have more interview invites by now (especially since schools stop interviewing soon) I have very solid numbers and people told me i should get plenty of interview invites.

Is applying later gonna screw me over this much? Even with great numbers?

I don't care so much about getting in...but not even interviewing??...this is ridiculous!

hard to say whether or not applying so late will screw you over. it will screw you to some extent probably, but you already got in at nyu so it doesn't appear to have screwed you too much. you sent your apps in when all the august mcat people were becoming complete, so it may take time for schools to review your file. for example, i was complete at tufts when my aug mcat scores arrived (late october?) & they still haven't reviewed my app (or so they say anyway). don't give up hope yet. you still have a couple more months to get interview offers for most schools.

you don't have to be this harsh. The OP is obviously naive about asking questions in a way that is considerate of others' feelings but that is no excuse to give her the donkey punch.

My advice to the OP: put your "great" numbers in a beautiful frame and realize that the early bird gets the worm. Luckily you got into NYU and you don't have to learn the lesson the hard way.

I did not intend to come off as conceited (I thought saying great would be better then actually posting stats and saying that NYU gave me admission would say that I was competitive but apparently i was wrong and most people took it for conceit).
I am however concerned because yes I did expect a lot of interviews because I worked damn hard to make sure everything in my app was kickass. Not having a chance to interview at even half of my schools just makes me feel like all that work i put in for 3 years didn't pay off. Sure I've already gotten into a great school and im happy for that. But that still doesnt make up for the disappointment and slight confusion at my lack of interviews.

This whole process is a crapshoot. I applied to 22 schools and have heard from half (includes 3 rejections). There seems to be no uniform trends either. I've interviewed at a couple tier 1, 2, and 3 schools and I have about the same breakdown of schools remaining that haven't done anything but cash my check. I could ask the question, "If I'm good enough to interview at school A, then why hasn't school B asked me to interview?" but I know better. It's a crapshoot.

Your so right Wolfer; it's like a dart game--throw a bunch of darts at the target--the more the better--and if one sticks ur lucky. Trying to figure out any rhyme or reason to the process, like why one school flat out rejects you while another wants you, is a waste of time as far as I can tell.
Berry12-just be happy that u got in somewhere so soon--lots of us with so-called good numbers are still waiting... 🙁

Know what's sad? I have the same problem. I've only had two interviews (1 at my state school and one at my undergrad school). The sad part is that my applications were complete by Sept. 3. Unfortunately, one of my recommenders didn't feel the need to write my letter until Oct. 25, so my file was not complete till the end of October. All the rushing and trying to get things done early was for nothing. I thought my recommender liked me and I asked her for the letter in the last week of July. Is it weird of my to expect her to have the letter done by the date that I told her it was due? (It was due Sept. 9 to Loyola). Anyway, kind of off-topic, but I needed to rant.

Its called telling it how it is and speaking the truth, I have spent 4 years listening to typical premed dumb****s talking like that so why stop putting them in their place now?

i agree with ramoray with this one. whether intended or not, berry sounded incredibly conceited. do you know how many people on this board would kill to have an acceptance to nyu? let alone ANY acceptance? besides, teh op applied FRIGGIN LATE. you didn't get any rejections yet so quit bitchin. if you apply late, teh responses will come later than most applicants

Although what you and Ramoray are saying may be true, there was absolutely no reason for him to resort to immature and personally insulting name calling. I think that people have a problem not with WHAT he said, but HOW he said it.
