Giving preference?

If your undergrad school also has a dental school, do they give preference to the pre-dental students over student from other schools?

My undergrad didn't. And it bothers me sooo much. I've heard UF does, and I'd like to assume Texas does (you'd probably know better), but TX just has a phenomenal program in place for TX residents, so they're lucky no matter what.

I think some privates would take their pre-dentals over others, but public schools aren't really allowed to do that I guess...but with the privates, its the networking that counts.

I am from UF and the Dental School Dean told us they don't give preference to UF students, just Florida residents.

Not at all. You shouldn't make this assumption. Schools like diversity and that means students from all over the state, if it's a state school, or if it's a private school, they will take people from all over the country and even internationals.

They give preference if you family donates to the school, or your mom/dad graduated from there. Unspoken of course.

+1 sometimes it even works against you....For instance some schools only accept x number of students from their university.
