Hi,

I am currently trying to decide whether I would rather apply to occupational therapy school, physical therapy or optometry school. I might apply to all three and see which one I can get into. My main concern is which program is going to require me to make presentations infront of a bunch of people. I will work hard at what ever I decide to do, but if I knew that there were more presentations required in optometry school that might help me make my decision. I know that might sound immature, but giving a speech is one of my biggest fears.

Any information or advice would be great

Thank you!

At UHCO they have what are called Grand Rounds. Ask any OD you know who went there, and their eyes will all temporarily glaze over with fear, they'll break out in a cold sweat, and their heart will miss a beat or two. A few seconds later they'll come to and you'll realize you have just found out that Satan truly does exist, and he exists in those Grand Rounds presentations, where you stand in front of your entire class and defend your RX and methods based off of something you saw in clinic to a panel of professors.

You need to stop caring so much about what others think, that should solve lot of your problems.

yeah, i know it's terrifying, but your fear of public speaking shouldn't stop you from pursuing the career you truly want. esp since when you actually become an OD you probably won't be making many speeches, unless you choose to. what helps me is preparing really well for a speech and pretending that i am acting...like in a play. that way people aren't judging me, but rather my character. (of course you should be yourself in most cases.) i know that sounds silly, but it helps me
