Hi,

Does anyone know the schools with the strongest International Health or Global Health programs? I like Yale's program in particular because of the connection they have with the WHO and the great summer internship program they offer after the first year. However, I have also read some negative things about Yale's MPH program in general. How does Yale's Global Health program compare with the programs in schools like Columbia, Washington, Emory, or Hopkins?
I would like to work for the WHO and I am thinking that maybe if I go to Yale and make the right connections then this could help me land a job with them, but at the same time I want to make sure I get solid background in other aspects of public health (epi, biostat, health policy, etc), especially for the price I am going to end up paying for the tuition.
Your help is much appreciated, thanks!

Hi Erica,

Thanks for letting me know about the changes in the Global Health program at Yale! I am still not sure about which program is best for me. I enjoy travelling, and I want to combine that with public health, that's why I think Global Health is something I would enjoy doing. While working for the CDC would be interesting, I view them as more of a domestic institution, rather than international (but I am sure they do international research as well). Anyway, I'll take a look at the program at GWU, as well as other programs that include an international aspect to it, such as the International Epidemiology program at Columbia...

Just to clarify, CDC does a tremendous amount of work internationally. Friends that work in the emerging disease program are always either travelling to various parts of Africa, Latin America, and Asia or are actually based there as CDC field staff. Most of my work is in Africa and Latin America doing more chronic disease work and my group at CDC is strictly international. If you would like more info, feel free to PM me. Also, I am a graduate of Columbia's international epi program so if you'd like more info on that as well, let me know.
