hi everyone

I have almost 1.5 years till my MCAT and I was wondering if it would be a good idea to study GMAT verbal first. I've been reading the economist as well and the EK 101, but I am worried that I would run out of the 'good' material too soon. I have about 3 months to devote 2-3 hrs of my time everyday just on VR

What do you guys think? I heard that GMAT is good for building vocab, and since I have more than a year, is this a good idea? (I need to improve in this area big time... since I have to look up many words in my dictionary while practicing VR) I also want to improve my comprehension + read faster

thanks guys! i really appreciate your help

Why would you use GMAT materials to prep for the MCAT? Besides the MCAT passages don't really test definitions, more of the author's tone.

Waste of time IMO.

any other opinions? I think the material is similar

I also don't see how GMAT verbal will help at all on the MCAT. MCAT tests more on comprehension and main themes of the passages. GMAT tests grammar (in the sentence correction parts) and vocabulary, which are not even seen on the MCAT.

I do plan to take the GMAT while in med school. As far as I can tell, it really will not help you on the MCAT. The MCAT poses passages and questions in an entirely different manner. You're better off using MCAT-only study material to prepare for VR.

you should read more and worry less about the mcat verbal. if you really want to practice then everytime you finish reading an article, review what you just read. quickly summarize the article in a few sentences. determine the main topic. determine the author's opinion and tone. determine if the article was presenting facts or commentary. these are the things you need to know for MCAT verbal passages. have fun doing these things.

I'm currently studying for the GMAT and hitting around 90%+ on my reading comprehension. i have a buddy studying for the MCAT right now and I did a couple of his passages and only hit around 60%. With that said I would not recommend studying the GMAT verbal, due to a different style of question, as well as an elevated level of diction on the MCAT.
