Hello, So it is looking more and more like I will have to reapply this coming cycle (On 1 MD waitlist though) and was wondering if an MCAT retake would be worth it. I think my biggest issues this cycle was that I applied pretty late with all my secondaries submitted throughout september so obviously would change that this time. My clinical and non-clinical also will go from 600 and 550 to 1100 and 750 respectively so some improvement there but the big question I have is if retaking my mcat would be worth it.

My GPA/grades are very touchy because of some personal hardships in undergrad so I have about 7Ws on my transcript sophmore to junior year however I took a 3 semester senior year + a DIY postbacc semester to reinvent ending with a 3.6 c/s GPA (3.9->3.4->2.9->3.8->4.0) with a lot red flags in the middle like I mentioned. I was fully banking on the MCAT to put any academic doubt to rest and although I averaged a 521 on the full lengths, never dropping below a 128 on CARS (or 127 if including 6 Blueprint FLs), the score I was locked in with after taking it in July with my primary already submitted was a 515 (130/124/131/130). I 100% believe my CARS performance was a fluke and am confident I can repeat my perfomance on the science sections but the BIG question is is it worth the effort? I worked veryyy hard to get those other subsections consistently 130+ and I know I can do it again but it will be all-consuming until May so is a higher balanced score really that much of a game changer for my app (say 520 hypothetically)?

The alternative is I could continue building up my activities and spend much more time effectively crafting my narrative/essays and apply literally day one without the huge stress of a retake. Obviously, I would hate to study again but if it makes a big enough difference, Im ready to go. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Absolutely under no circumstances should you retake. Unless you have reason to believe that you could've scored at least a 521 with ease on test day (and frankly, no one can really say that...) then you're risking wasting time, energy, money, and the possibility that your score stays stagnant or becomes worse.

I think to get a full assessment, I'd recommend posting a detailed WAMC here (see that forum for templates).

Thank you I forgot about that post. yep that pretty much is my WAMC/summarizes everything in more detail. Here's my school list, keep in mind I submitted most of these before my score came out (not smart i know) so likely a couple donations. Secondaries for all schools complete September 1-30th. @Goro

I agree with those who said not to retake the MCAT.

Applying late hurts, and that's something you can easily fix this time around. You definitely overreached with some schools, but did you get any IIs other than the WLing school? If not, I wonder if you failed to present yourself well. Did you have a knowledgeable person review your applications?

Read over the WAMC. It's a bit hard for me to give direct advice since some details are missing, but here's my impression based on the list:
-I probably would've eliminated Georgetown, Boston U, and Loyola - you mentioned 350 hours of nonclinical stuff but they are often looking for a bit more, into the thousands. I'd also suggest you look into your list of activities and check that your non-clinical work meets the generally accepted definitions of non-clinical service work - which generally (but not always) means some form of food bank, shelter work, transportation services, housing rehab, or job/tax assistance.
-Also I don't know your state of origin but I'm guessing some of the schools you applied to, even in the midwest, are OOS schools that don't accept a lot of OOS applicants. My understanding is unfortunately for many of these schools there's no difference if you're from the state next door or you live all the way across the country — OOS means OOS.
-I also see that you mentioned on your WAMC applying DO but to my eyes that list looks like all MD. Not that I think you needed to given your stats, but DO schools are much more rewarding of reinvention than MD
-Finally beyond objective measures of activities there's always what I like to call "the intangibles" - your PS, activity descriptions, secondaries and LORs. We obviously can't judge that from here but I'd strongly recommend taking your writing to your pre-health officers to read over and evaluate, and also consider your LOR writers as well to get a sense of whether or not they actually gave a strong recommendation.

Best of luck on the waitlist - I personally am someone who had just 1 II last cycle and it turned out pretty solid for me.
