HI ALL,
I AM NEW TO SDN, AND I AM LOOKING FOR SOME ADVICE.
I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE THINKING ABOUT APPLYING TO DENTAL SCHOOL FOR THE 2007 TERM, BUT I WILL FINISH UP MY PREREQS BY THE END OF THE SPRING SEMESTER. ALSO, I WILL BE TAKING THE DAT PROBABLY IN LATE DEC. DO YOU GUYS THINK I SHOULD WAIT IT OUT AND APPLY NEXT YEAR INSTEAD? I HAVEN'T COMPLETED MY APPLICATION EITHER. UNLV IS TELLING ME TO WAIT FOR THE NEXT YEAR, BUT COLORADO (I AM A RESIDENT OF COLORADO) IS TELLING ME TO APPLY. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? 😕 THANKS~~!!
P.S.-THE DAT ONLY COVERS MATERIAL ON ORGANIC CHEM I? OR EVEN II?

I HAVE A 3.7 GPA WITH APPROX 3.4 SCIENCE GPA, AM I STILL COMPETITIVE? IF YOU ALREADY GOT ACCEPTED TO DENTAL SCHOOL, CAN YOU PLEASE SHARE YOUR STATS?

WHAT?

Applying in Dec is very late...but if Colorado says to and you think you have a good shot...why not? This question is most likely best answered by you.

First I would turn off caps lock.

Then I would probably wait a year. You'll be ahead of the rest of the applicant pool. If you submit your app now it will probably end up at the schools in December sometime, and who knows when they'll extend interview invites (if they even have room left). Plus over half the seats in probably all schools will be filled up.

Honestly it's no big deal if you take a year off. Perhaps you could start saving up for dental school. Plus you SHOULD finish your pre-reqs before applying.

BTW, there is some orgo II on the DAT but it's the easier stuff.

You don't have to finish your prereqs before applying, just before you matriculate. So, if Colorado thinks you should apply I would say go for it. The only thing is that AADSAS is awfully expensive to apply to one school and since most schools will have 1/3 to 1/2 of their class filled in December it may not be worth it to apply to multiple schools. If you're okay with spending the $180 or whatever it is to process your first application then go for it. Your grades seems fine... it will really depend on where your DAT puts you since you are a late applicant. GOOD LUCK!

If you do well on the DAT and have a strong application then it's never too late. However, you are still late. Dec 1 is when schools send out the initial round of acceptances and you won't even have an official DAT score at schools until early/mid Jan. Jan 15 is the second round. It looks like you'll be competing for an alternate spot unless your application is strong.

Remember, you do AADSAS, DAT, then the school reviews your appliation, you receive a secondary in the mail, you mail the secondary back with application fee, you receive an interview invitation, you schedule the interview and actually interview. After all of that your application is complete and you can receive consideration for a spot. Schools typically start interviewing in September/October.

But, some schools hold spots until late in the cycle and some have alternate lists they actually use up. If you can afford the application process without feeling too abused by a late application then I'd say go for it. The worst that can happen is that you get rejected and need to reapply.

i am with streetwolf you need to stop yelling and you are probably too late but goodluck next year you will be fine if you apply early and kill the dat...mostly the problem is it is expensive and you have a much better chance if you wait but if you have money to burn go for it

Wait so you have more than 1 option. (like 19 others!)

Good Luck

If you have good stats go ahead and apply. Consider this: your chances might be diminished since you're applying late, but your chances of getting in this semester would be a lot better than if you chose not to apply.

Have u studied for DAT?

I think u will be pressed for time way to much. U will have to take your DAT, get LOR in time, and finish your application before the end of Dec! It takes a while to get ppl first to write your letters of rec, and for them to send it in, and for all transcripts and stuff... trust me. It almost took me a month to get all the stuff ready to go. I did all that after I took DAT bc I had to spend few months going over stuff I forgot, and practicing my PAT skills.. heheh... that was the hardest part.

But if you think that u can do all this in few weeks, then more power to you. I would presonally take my time, apply early next year, take care of DAT and then have more options. Besides.... spending one year chilling, and making some money for dental school is not that bad. I took two years off.... and now I am ready to go back to school! Good luck to you!
