I've seen situations like this posted before. What would you recommend?
I'm on a 4 week rotation with another med student (who's a 4th year). We're supposed to come in one weekend during the month (the weekend we have in between our inpatient weeks). (Our team has 3 weeks inpatient and 1 week outpatient).
- My weekend would be this upcoming one, and his should have been 2 weekends ago.
- The attending hasn't said anything about expecting us to, although the clerkship director says it's required.
- The resident suggested that it's pretty dull and we shouldn't go out of our way to do it.
- The attending is the only evaluation that counts in our grade.
- I actually don't mind coming in this weekend, as I haven't had a chance to work up many patients on that service yet, and this is a dark horse canditate for my career interests (right now, it's either #2 or #3).
So, how do I tactfully handle this without getting the other student in trouble? The other student is a nice guy and has been helpful in imparting his 4th year knowledge.
