I posted this in the pre-vet forum but I'm not sure if it belongs here or there and I want as much feedback as possible to calm my nerves lol

I got accepted into Illinois (only place I got in) for the class of 2014 but am having some last minute nervousness about going. I live in Texas and love the south and don't want to leave my family and friends here (didn't get into aTm) but got really excited about Illinois' new curriculum while interviewing there.

I have a really low GPA and feel like I got a huge break getting into school anywhere at all, but basically I want you guys' opinions on if I should wait and reapply to Texas A&M or if I have no chance in hell and should just suck it up and go to Illinois (I always said I'd go wherever I could get in while I was applying)

GRE: 600 verbal; 690 quantitative
MCAT: 31
GPA: overall - 3.14; science - 3.15
Experience: 1400 hrs - ranch work; 3500 - small animal

sorry to make such a whiny post, but I'm kinda freaking out about leaving everyone here and paying OOS tuition at Illinois (37K). Thanks for your help guys!

You got into vet school with less than stellar stats. You really like the curriculum, and said you'd go wherever you got in. Just go!! I've lived away from my family (California vs. Ohio) for >7 years, and I am living 6 hours away from my husband in order to attend my dream school. And it's 100% worth it. Four years really isn't all that long. Especially not when compared to the rest of your life.

If you reapply next year, there's is absolutely no guarantee that you'll get in anywhere. Also, school's may look down on the fact that you got an acceptance this year and didn't go.

I agree. Go to Illinois. You'll probably find that you it love it there and are relieved to be enrolled anywhere. If Texas is still on you mind once you go, work on having stellar grades 1st year and try to transfer.
