Hi all,

I applied to 27 schools, interviewed at 11 (mostly "tier-1" schools), was accepted to St Louis University and waitlisted at 4 "top-tier" schools.

I suspect that the reason I didn't get in to many schools I interviewed at was because I had depression and the schools figured that out. It is very clear to me that there was a problem with my interview, but I could not figure out what that problem was.

SLU currently has probation, but my current plan is to attend anyway because it is a great opportunity. Do y'all think this is a good idea? Based on my results, would applying again do me any good?

Thoughts appreciated.

Although I should echo the famous Goro who says that the number one reason for MS1 withdrawing is "unresolved mental health issues." If you still have depression and are not yet being treated, start ASAP. "Medical school is a furnace and can break even healthy students."

After battling for four years, I figured out the source of my depression and challenged it.

I completely understand the risk of having students with depression, which is why I suspect that it was the reason for my results. But I know I won't drop out. If I wanted to drop out I would have four years ago.

Agree with this wholeheartedly. However, I remember applying to SLU and seeing they placed a lot of emphasis on student's mental health. Take that acceptance and run, though.

Turning down a US MD acceptance will put you at risk of being blackballed and rejected everywhere MD if you reapply. Take the SLU acceptance and don't look back.

SLU is a great school and I wouldn't worry about probations. Baylor was put on probation a while ago. LCME is just a bit excessively strict.

I know "probation" is a really scary word to pre-meds, but really, it's not going to be an issue. They were told they had deficiencies by LCME, and now they have to fix them. So no, the school is not going to get shut down.

So go to SLU and don't look back.

Thank you. Best of luck to all future applicants.
