I am taking step 1 in a couple of days, and I was wondering what the lock-down procedures are. I know you are not allowed to bring anything into the room, but that you have a locker to put stuff in. I was curious as to whether you are allowed to walk out to your vehicle during breaks. From what I've read, you can do whatever you want as long as you get the test done in the 8 hours. I was thinking of bringing a cooler w/ some drinks & stuff in it, but I didn't want to go to the trouble if they are going to not allow me to go out to my car during my breaks to get it. Thanks.

no you can't...
you can step outside for a smoke if you're a smoker... but you can't go to your car... at least that's what my center people had told me...
why risk a testing irregularity?

you can go to your car, ur not locked down. the on ly test you get locked down for is CS

the locker had enouhg space for 2 cans, a pepsi bottle, coffee thermos, and a bunch of food. THey also let me keep my backpack in the room with the lockers. U shouldnt have to leave it in ur car. It was chill, i would take breaks and go outside and eat or drink coffee and get fresh air after each block

later

I just did the practice questions at the test center and they said we can leave if we want to. I wondered because I'm going to need some fresh coffee during my lunch break or I won't make it through the day.

As for a cooler full of drinks in the car, i'll probably have one, but it will contain drinks for AFTER the exam, not the kind you would want to drink during the test (although it might help ease the nerves a little) 😉 .

I hope you mean that the drinks are for AFTER your drive home 😀

Sorry, didn't mean to support drinking and driving in any way. I did mean to support having a nice cold beer (or maybe a bunch of them) and celebrating after the exam... and AFTER your done driving for the day 🙂 .
