Going at the same time?

My wife also wishes to continue her education and apply for physcial therapy school. Now that I have been accepted to pharmacy school and reality has set in for her, she believes that she will have to wait on her schooling until I am done. She says that someone is going to have to make money. I think we could get enough from loans and some part-time work. I have been telling her all along that it would be best if we both go to school at the same time because we will both be busy at the same time. It would be better than me being busy for 4 years and then her being busy for the next 3. We don't have any kids yet, so why the heck not? We could even be study buddies, kinda. Oh yeah, she wants to go to the same school as me, (Midwestern CCP) which is a smaller private school and we would most likely bump into each other. Would that be weird? Or maybe we could sneak into an unoccupied room for a quicky?
Any thoughts?

How long do you want to struggle for? I am more of the mentality like you, that you might as well only struggle once! Plus if you are working as a pharmacist while she is in school she will most likely not qualify for the subsidized loans...because you will be subsidizing her education with your income. I guess my concern in this situation is how are bills/rent or mortgage etc. going to be paid for if both people are in fulltime school at the same time? Of course, I don't know your ages or financial situation, so....

I guess it depends on how old you are, your financial situation, when you plan to have kids, etc. If my husband and I didn't have a house and a 1 year old we would definitely be living frugally and both going to school full time. With a house and a family our options are much more limited.

If you are both in school and working less or not at all you will be eligibile for more financial aid. I am not sure if it will be enough to cover your living expenses, but you could always take out private loans or work part time to fill in the gaps. It would defintely be worth it.

Given the choices and what you've told us so far, I tend to agree with you that now would be a great time for you both to finish school. The point about school loan availability once you're a practicing pharmacist is well-taken. In pharmacy school, you should be able to get loans sufficient to cover basic living expenses. You'll each be able to work a little bit to bring in extra cash.

Seriously- without kids, you can live like little misers for the next four years. Some of what you'll each be studying will cross over, especially anatomy and physiology. Plus, you'll each have a somewhat different perspective on issus facing patients.

Oh, and you'll be too tired for quickies. But, that means you probably won't be having any kids soon, either. ;-)

I say go for it at the same time, get the tough financial years out of the way, and then live like a king and queen afterwards!

On another note labrat, I miss the old "mmmmm beotch" avatar. I think that if you switch back to that one that all the good things in life will just roll your way...you won't even have to try. Just a suggestion

I say go for it. My bf and I will be going to grad/professional school at the same time. I know plenty of couples who did it (engaged while in, got married during) and are living pretty well now. You will have to live frugally, but in my opinion, it's such a short time compared to the lifetime income both of you will be making-small sacrifices now make for awesome lifelong rewards! Yeah, I just like changing things now and then. Kinda miss good ol' Samuel L.

Oh, I'm going to be 29 when school starts and she'll be 26 at that time. If we go to school sequentially, I'll be almost 40 by the time we have kids 😱😱😱. Unless we decide to knock them out while I'm in school. We already took A&P together last year. It was fun, we had the 2nd and third highest grades in the class. Somebody had a 100%, he/she had way too much time on their hands! Then after studying the books we had a little of our own A&P to go over.
