I'm currently an engineering major, but in the long time between applications and college starting, I changed my mind and wanted to pursue pharmacy. So I decided to change to a biochemistry major, but I can't change majors until the 2nd quarter. I took a higher level of math (engineering math), but if I switched to a lower math series that qualifies for biochemistry major, will that look bad? Will they think I took the easy way out by taking the lowest math series required (especially since I started with the highest math series?)

😳
A biochemistry major is in no way shape or form going to be an easy major so my personal opinion is that you shouldnt worry about what it will look like especially as far as the math goes.

I know at my school you have to have cal A so were you taking math above cal A?

I think you will be fine 😀

Well in high school I took AP Calculus BC, but I'm retaking the calc courses. Here, its called something different, but we have 3 levels of math: the highest is for engineers, and the lowest is whats required for biochem majors (the middle is sort of in the middle of the two). So basically I started at the hardest math, but then I'm going to switch to the easiest one in the middle of the series. Just wanna make sure it doesnt appear like I'm being lazy or something

Whoops, I wrote a whole lot and now I realize that I misread your post.

I'm just wondering, will they question why I went from the highest level math series all the way to the lowest level math series. The lower level math series is only 3 units while the other one is 4. Will they think I took the easy way out and will that affect my admissions?

don't worry. the supplemental applications will give you plenty of opportunities to discuss your reasons for changing majors... and hence, the change in math series.

as long as it meets requirements it should be fine...

if they ask, be honest.

"i switched from engineering to biochemistry and the calculus for engineering majors unnecessary for my degree and interests."

this certainly isn't "taking the easy way out."
