It makes sense that most people are single. In all likelihood many students are going to be moving out of state or across their state to attend ds. I'm moving to pennsylvania from Wisco; it'd be pretty dumb imo to start a relationship with a pre-designated end time.
I would safely assume that 30% of our class is married and another 10% in a serious relation. Plus the few pairs of students who paired up with each other in our class. Bow chica wow wow

If I get accepted, I will be going in single. However, I kinda want to go into dental school in a serious relationship. My reasoning is your going to be so busy that dating will be hard and during the first parts of a relationship in my experience, its required that you two spend a lot of time together. The exception is if you find someone in dental school and they are just as busy as you. If your in a more serious relationship, spending time apart is easier and your partner will be more understanding.
I hope I don't get a massive retaliation to this view point but, another reason is I feel like the better girls are usually already taken in dental school (at least thats what my brother told me). Not saying there aren't dimes out there that are single, but the probability of finding one that isn't in a relationship is harder as you grow older (maybe that's why some marriages the husband and wife are 10 years apart).
Anyways, my relationships in college have never really been serious but I still got my senior year. Maybe something will happen, but if I go in single, it won't be that big of a deal lol.

I'm going in married. However if you are single and about to go into dental school I would recommend staying single. Quality relationships take work if you want to maintain them. I'm not saying I regret getting married before dental school, because I don't... however, part of me thinks it may have been easier if I were single, because I could just be a workaholic. Then again, having a spouse/S.O. will require you to get away, that way you don't burn out as quickly. Maybe it's a draw.

Satisfying all the requirements to get into dental school (DAT, pre-reqs, volunteer experience, saving the world) takes a lot of your time. I'm not surprised an overwhelming number of entering students are single. People just don't have time to mess around with relationships during this stressful and hectic time.
I've been told that in the first year everyone hooks up. So if you're single, don't worry. There's a plenty to go around.

Don't get me wrong. I'm just saying. If you're single, don't fret, because you'll meet more people like you with a similar background (hard working, dedicated, and perhaps single). But if you're in a relationship, then power to you.
It just happens that some unfortunate souls haven't met a compatible person yet or just decided to focus on studies. Dental school and related activities will provide another opportunity to meet and network.

If I get accepted into Dental School, I plan on marrying my lady of 4 years early so I can drag her with me wherever it is I go. Now that she knows I'm back into pursuing Dentistry, she's all of a sudden looking into Dental Hygienest (sp?) programs. I think it would be nice having a significant other to come home to after being in class and studying for 12 hours, but only if the significant other knows what it means to be in graduate school and knows what the hours and stress level will be like. Just my 2 cents.
why are you surprised? the mean age for students is 23/24.
for the general population the percentage of 23/24 year olds that are married is not that large, dental school isn't any different.
the US census has lots of free time and money that calculated that for the median age for 1st marriage is 28.4 for men, 26.5 for women.
So I'm good for a few more months.
