hey all,

I am going to medical school in august and was thinking about residency placement, i know it's a little early to think about it but i was thinking of doing research in the field I like in order to get some experience. I've done cardio research in the past and think that whatever med school i end up deciding to go to i can do research there the summer before classes start. do you all think that's a good idea and that getting publications in your field tremendously help your chances of matching in a preferred field? even if i change my interest, i think it'll still be helpful for matching. thanks for the help

yeah, publications help, it doesnt even have to be somehting u want to go into, just being published is somehting that can set u apart.

Research can help getting competitive residencies without a doubt but don't forget the value of doing something that you really want to do in one of your last summers. If thats research than go for it but consider doing something that will be fun for you is research isn't your thing. Just a thought. 🙂

From what I've been told, being published can set you apart. But if you are already published, I certainly wouldn't spend your last 2 summers doing research- unless for some reason you just happen to get off on it.

hey...definately don't get off on it. i'd much rather spend this summer living in vegas but what can ya do.... i guess i'll have to figure it out.

Like I said, if you are already published, don't worry 'bout it. After all, you are in Vegas, baby. Live is up. Go see an Elvis impersonator, drink free boos, check out the beautiful babies.
