I need one year of biology to complete all the prereqs for school and am having a very hard time finding open classes to register for. Degree seeking students have priority, as they should, and I am considering trying to beg the prof/force my way into a class at University of IL (which would also be my top choice for med school) versus just signing up at a local, smaller and less-respected school where the class actually is open (Roosevelt University). My other science pre-reqs were from a CC so makes it slightly more important to me to take the last one at a well regarded institution, although my BA itself is from an excellent school. Any thoughts on the best course? Has any one else faced a similar situation and how was it resolved?

If all the other prereqs were taken at CC, why change now?
Generally I don't think it's the best to take them at CC, but if I was looking at an app with prereqs mainly at CC, that's how I'd view the candidate. Taking 2 classes at a 4 year wouldn't make much difference.

That being said, at a big university, classes like intro bio will have a ton of students along with a ton of drops. Get in contact with the prof and explain your situation. You may be able to just come to the class without registering (if there are no spots) and they can sign you in when the drops occur. If this is a school were you have no current ties, they may be less likely to let this happen.

I'd register at the CC as well, just in case, so that you have a seat for this year.

As long as you get A's and as long as it's a 4 year accredited college, it's not going to matter much. Go to the smaller local university. Reputation of a school is an overrated quantity when it comes to med school apps. It helps a little, but not as much as people think, especially if you're talking about only a few classes and not a whole degree.

this is very true and it has happened to me. It won't hurt to ask for a syllabus or befriend a classmate to help you keep up with the class so when a spot is available you'll be ready with the best of them.
