so i thought someone here said that if we go through the match this year we can't go through the match next year if we don't match...we have to sign outside the match. on the interview trail i met a guy who didn't match last year and was there interviewing, going through the match for a CA-1 position. i didn't think you could do this. can anyone clue me in on how this works -- 😕.

I don't believe this is correct. You are allowed to reapply if you don't match.

Thankfully, you won't have to worry about this, amyl. You will match!

thanks for the vote of confidence!!! i sure do hope so...

You can go through the match next year, plus since you wouldn't be a graduating medical student, you're free to sign outside the match. That said, once is enough.

thanks for the info...i agree once is enough and am hoping so... but i am trying to decide if it is better to match period or match in a place i don't think i or my husband will be happy.... or a program that isn't quite what i want... and make the best of it for four years....

You are not alone. I am struggling between staying home where my fiancee will be more comfortable, or going away to a program that I felt more comfortable at. I will be newly married, and I don't want a divorce to ensue because he hates where we move. I also don't want to stay home (provided I match at my #1 choice here) and be upset because it doesn't seem to have the kind of people I'd like and/or support system. Decisions...🙁
I think its best to go to the program you want (same for me), but its difficult to choose this while trying to factor in your spouses' happiness....
