I'm going to a undergrad (90% sure) where they don't use -/+ letters for letter grades. They just have 4 letter grades in scale (F,C,B,A) in grading system. They don't have A+, A, A-, B+, B- ...... etc

I feel I will have disadvantage because I'm unable to obtain B+ and A- letter grades. I am a B+ to A- student but not a straight A student. I'm kinda worry that my GPA will end up a 3.0 🙁

Any comments ??

Er... I wasn't aware that an A+ was weighted differently than an A, or an A-. Is it that way in Canada?

If so, I've never heard of +/- bearing any GPA weight at all, here in the USA. But that's just me...

K. Guys thanks. I am going to try pull off a 4.0 in college.

A 4.0 is my goal too...we'll see how long it lasts.

I think the straight A, B, C, D, F grading scale is fairly advantageous for most pre-meds. Having an A- bumped up to a 4.0 is a much bigger boon than B+'s getting lowered to B's is a problem.

Absolutely. 👍

+/- systems suck.

Hey, we could move all grades to pass/fail for UG too 😛 .

Serious note though, I would perfer a non +/- system. Missing one more question to bring your grade down to an A- wouldn't influence your grade.

There are some high schools that don't give grades at all--each teacher has to write detailed reports about each student in their class. Every semester. For every class. For four years.

Their transcripts are seventy pages long. No joke.

I'm all about the pass/fail system, myself. It's how I passed gym!

I never knew colleges didn't use a +/- system...I guess I just assumed they did because my high school uses a +/- system. I think I'd much rather not using a +/- system, though.

That's crazy!! Colleges must get really annoyed when they receive applications with novels attached instead of transcripts...

My undergrad just recently changed to a +/- system last year. If I was still there, my cGPA and sGPA might've raised by about 0.05. I'm a little peeved at the timing, but I don't know which I would've preferred at the time.

Case in point, don't be too surprised if your state undergrad decides to change to a +/- system. It's not that common I would expect but it happens.

In most +/- systems, an A+ is still only worth 4.0. That alone is reason to hate it.

Yeah, I've definitely gotten more A-s than B+s. You should be happy.
