Hey.

I was accepted EDP to an MD school, for class of 2014.

Due to personal reasons I applied EDP, my wife works nearby, we just had a baby, etc etc, I wanted to take the chance of applying EDP in hopes of increasing my chance of staying with my family. Luckily it worked out.

I am pretty interested in OMM and I was just wondering if anyone knew if it were possible to learn some level of information about OMM as an MD student. At a local DO school, once I matriculate (or during the summers) would it be possible to learn about OMM? Obviously I wouldn't expect to be a pro since I am not attending DO school, but I am genuinely interested in learning some level of information about it.

Just wanted to see if anyone has any information about the possibilty...

Thanks. J

I know that some schools offer CME classes in OMM. If I were you, I would wait until after you graduate/finish residency, and then contact the OTM departments at schools closer to you, and see when they offer the CME classes in OMM.

Some allopathic schools have OMM electives. It can be introduced in allopathic family medicine residencies as well.

awesome..thanks guys. glad to know its possible!

Harvard offers an OMM course to licensed physicians in the summer I believe. Also, if you want to learn it during residency, look for a dual AOA/ACGME residency. You can take advantage of the OMM learning skills there too... and pick the brains and hands of your fellow DO residents. I know several MDs that learned OMM that way.

Awesome... that sounds great. Thanks for all of the info guys. I am so glad to know it's possible for me to learn OMM even though my school doesn't offer it.

i'm very intested in OMM as well, as i just had a demonstration yesterday. i'm leaning more towards going to the MD school i was admitted to, but would still like to learn OMM. thanks for the information and i will see if my school offers an elective.
