can anybody tell me how to put goljan audio on my iPod? when i try to do it i get a message saying "some of the songs in the iTunes music library were not copied to the iPod because they cannot be played on this iPod."

the file description says these are MP3s and all of my MP3 songs will transfer, but the goljan audio files will not. thanks.

the goljans might have a copyright protection. if you can't do it and ur willing to reset ur ipod, i'd give that a try. using the restore function.

it has to do with the fact that the files that everyone got from that one site were encoded in layer 2. mp3s are mpeg1 layer 3, and the difference in "layer" prevents some music players from playing these, since they don't have the correct codec to decode the information. computer media players like winamp or windows media player usually come with these codecs, so it's only a problem when you have things like ipods that don't support this type of file format.

however, you can convert these layer 2 files into layer 3. there are programs for those. a google search should be more than adequate for someone with basic reference skills. (i.e. don't ask me for what they are or how to use them b/c i'm lazy)

I had the same problem. What you do is right click each individual goljan track (all 38 of them I believe) and convert each of them to an AAC file. I believe AAC is Apple's version of MP3. It is a tedious process, but it is well worth it in the end. Let me know how it goes.

you can select all his mp3s and convert them to mp3 via iTunes

Converting them to the AAC definitely works. Playing them on the Ipod KILLS the battery for some reason though, and it occasionally locks up. I don't know if this has to do with the size of the files (since they are an hour or so each), but it is annoying.

you're right...i just added the files to my playlist in iTunes and then highlighted all 37 goljan audio files and right-clicked and clicked on "convert to ACC" and left my computer alone for the morning to run its magic (each file takes about a minute and a half to convert).

i tested it only on the first audio file and it transferred it no problem to the iPod and i could listen to the lecture. but now my iPod won't even turn on; is that what you meant by locking up? WTF is the deal??? anyone have any idea how i can get my iPod to turn on again?

The battery on these things suck ass anyways with regular music, so i'm not too worried about the difference these files will make. thank god i got this thing for free.

thanks for the advice...it worked great. 👍

nevermind about it not turning on. i googled the problem and found you can press the menu and select (white in middle of wheel) buttons and hold for 10 seconds and bam...it booted right up. thanks for everybody's help.

Hey Lattimer

Glad to help. I have the 15GB Ipod and have never had the problem with the battery running low and quickly when listening to Goljan. Then again, I only have the Goljan stuff and about 50 songs on there. Good luck with resuscitating your pod. Sorry can't help.
