Since the consensus seems to be that the audio follows the Path Rapid Review book pretty closely, is there really a need to use the bootleg audio files in addition to the Rapid Review Path book? Or could you just go through the Rapid Review Path book without listening to his lectures and still get the same material?

thanks

The comprehensive notes that accompany the audio do have more in them than the Rapid Review book, plus there's the 100 page high-yeild, which is much more complete than the 36 page version.

Some have said that listening to the audio without the notes is enough, but from what I've seen, doing them together is more productive - especially if you go through the notes a few times before listening to the audio.

Just my 2 cents...

Don't believe this crap. It's something that a lot of student from Goljan's school like to say. Ask people who don't go to OSU-COM this and you'll get an entirely different answer. He's a great lecturer and a pretty good writer, but remember which one he did first.

I am not really familiar with goljan or his lectures (i don't have the audios). are you suggesting I should use his Kaplan lecture notes instead of using Rapid Review?

I would not make this assertion. His book mirrors his in-class lectures, but I cant comment on his Kaplan lectures (which are probably what you are referring to)

No offense to you because you're a real straight shooter but you too are from OSU-COM. I agree his books do reflect but they are not exact. The lectures can not exactly mirror or else someone would just transcribe his lectures verbatim. The OP was wanting to know if the book would suffice without the lectures. I am well aware that the lectures and book supplement each other quite nicely. They are both good standalone but are even better when used in combo. Add his 500 pages of notes and you are golden. I've read both Rapid Review and his notes and there are differences, although some would call them minor or subtle. I feel they are worth obtaining.

from a NON OSU-COM student, do the book and lectures together once you have hit physio, micro, immuno, (or at least made a first pass at those topics.). Goljians lectures clarify the notes significantly and he makes the material simple... sometimes even painfully simple.

So, in response to your original post, No, I dont think the book alone is enough. In fact, Rapid Review Path isnt any better than BRS or some of the other review books. The only reason to buy rapid Review is that it conveniently is an outline for the Goljan lectures thus making it easier to follow along.

Again, just my $0.02.

Any chance that means it's actually true?

You just love coming on these boards and discrediting OSU-COM students without reason.

However, the current notes that he gives our class are actual copies of the 2006 edition of Rapid Review Pathology (which has not been published yet.)

I cannot vouch for Kaplan, but I am sure they are very similar.

OSU -

Any better idea of when the 2006 rapid review is coming out? Do u think it will be substantially different than the 2003 version?

The book will come out in late summer/early fall.

It will feature 100 added images, with all of them in color. The current version is black and white.

It will also feature an expanded number of practice questions.

The enhanced CD will contain the added images and questions.

Where do people get the comprehensive notes that accompany the audio? Download from somewhere? from someone else who has them?

Get this straight...for all non-OSU students, there is no such thing as the 2006 Rapid Review (currently and for this test cycle...a majority of those Class of 2008 student reading this board). So quit promoting it like it's something they all want. They want the high yield facts and notes. Where can they get it? From Goljan's 500 page notes. I'm not discrediting all of the OSU-COM students, just the ones that protest heavily the use of Goljan and start promoting books that do not even exist (yet). Help some people out and quit spreading rumors.

👍 You guys really come across as j@ckasses when you berate people for trying to use Goljan's helpful materials and continually tell them that his notes are the same as the 2006 Rapid Review when you know damn well it won't be released until everyone has taken the boards.

Are you talking about me? I'm the one pointing this out. By the way, no professor with half a brain would put his/her exact notes into a book that can be mass distributed with ease. His teaching career is basically done if he gave all his secrets at once.

I was talking to OSU-DOC, et al. You hit the nail in the head, hence my 👍 right after I quoted you.

😀

I thought so but there was an unclear antecedent ("you guys"). 👍 👍 👍

Let's revisit this post when the book comes out.

You do not know what you are talking about, so please discontinue your antagonism.
