Gents/ladies,

I hear a lot about "Goljan". Some of you may know that I'm about to begin MSII. But, when I google "Goljan" (and even search it here on SDN) I get a myriad of different products. Some are audio oriented, others seem to be "notes".

Is there a Goljan Pathophysiology TEXT that is worthwhile to buy. Regardless of whether my med school requires this or not, if it's generally considered a good source, I'd be happy to buy it for a reference or fall back.

Can someone please confirm the exact name of such a text that is very effective at integrating multiple systems (with mechanisms) within a pathalogical context??

Goljan Rapid Review Pathology is a MUST. It is what everyone raves about. The audio files are also excellent and several of my board questions came straight from them.

Rapid Review Biochem by Goljan is also thrown around, but I didn't get that because I thought it was a waste of time and money (I had probably 5 total questions about biochem and the topics were talked about in first aid).

Anywho, get RR Path (not an option!) and try to obtain the audio files (the notes from the audio files aren't as helpful and rather tedious). Feel free to ask more questions.

Couldn't agree more. Goljan RR Path is absolutely the gold standard for path and Step 1 studying. Read along in it when you're learning 2nd year path/pathophys stuff. The explanations, diagrams, etc etc are great.

If you can get your hands on the audio, give it a listen, some people love it. I feel that the book is a good replacement. I mean, it's 37 hrs of lecture and unless you can speed it up to 1.5x or so you're gonna get bored. People say to listen to it while you're driving or at the gym, but personally I prefer Tool and Audioslave when I'm benching 👍

The other Goljan stuff I can't vouch for, haven't used any, but if you can dig up the "100-page HY notes" or "36-page HY notes" you should flip through those as well.

Most of the stuff above I've said over in the Step 1 forum, particularly in the 2007 Experiences thread. Merry studying

Hey cfdavid,

Fellow rising MSII here - just a heads up on the Goljan path audio files - if you want to put them onto your iPOD, you need to convert the files to AAC format, if they're not already in that format.

Thanks for the heads up. I appreciate it. Good luck in the coming year. I'm pretty geeked for path/pathophys and pharm. Now we'll get to learn some "real" medicine you know? Who knows, maybe I'm being idealistic..

I actually will have a pretty solid commute this coming year, so I can see the audio coming in handy.
 
Goljan audio path was by far my best tool for S1 prep. The man is amazing in terms of knowledge base, and more importantly, teaching ability.

Me2 man... I'm hoping path and pharm can help tie things together for me - it's like all this information is on the tip of my tongue, but I can't connect the pieces.
I've got a commute too this year, I also dl'd some microbio lectures from the Univ of S Carolina that I might listen to. Might as well make that time useful.

Nice to see I'm not the only pre-clinical med student that hangs out in this forum!
