Some revisits I felt a connection with my future classmates. Other revisits I was turned off by cliquey behavior and "social gunning". This sounds bad, but at some places, I definitely felt a bit of racial segregation. I'd introduce myself to everyone, but the only person who'd respond warmly in the group would be the guy of the same race. It's not that others were mean. I'd ask them about themselves and they'd respond politely/quickly, but would quickly start talking to others who looked more similar to themselves. They just didn't seem interested. Coming from a more diverse institution, this was just a bit of culture shock.

Would you trust these first impressions in helping you make a decision on where to go? (Or does this kind of thing even matter? After all, I'm going to school to get a degree, not to make best friends 🙄) Has anyone experienced this?

i get what you mean about the racial segregation. it happens everywhere though. i went to a diverse institution, and i think people find comfort in their own type of people. its weird, but just have confidence in yourself. you really cant tell much from one day right? you will have 2-4 years to build connections with the people there, you will make plenty of friends and things will work out.

good thing i'm attractive. jk
