Hello, I am interested in pursuing Neuro Research while I attend medical school. I would greatly appreciate a good book/text that I could purchase and read to get acquainted with the field and to use as a reference while reading the journal literature.

I assume you mean a good text for understanding basic neuroscience. If that is indeed the case, the standard (for most) is Principles of Neural Science by Kandell. In my opinion, its a great book and covers just about all the basics of neuroscience. A slightly more advanced book is Fundamentals of Neuroscience by McConnell. Personally, I think the Kandell book is sufficient but some who work in the field of cell recording (patch clamp, etc.) prefer the McConnell book because there are more in-depth chapters on action potential propagation, etc.. I know you're probably looking for a 'text book" but at some point you should read Oliver Sacks 'The Man who mistook his wife for a hat" - some really cool case studies that are real and are really interesting too. good luck.
