What is some good books about clinical psychology that is leisure to read. Also, what is some good books about clinical psychologists, such as their life, in a story, or a little girl/boy talking about her dad a psychologist, etc..

I can't give you any good textbooks of clinical psych, but two good fiction books involving mental illness include:

One Flew Over the ****oo's Nest (mental institutions)
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time (autism)

Check the sticky above about books- there are some good fiction reads on that list. Unfortunatly, I have forgotten what leisure reading is like since starting my doc program a year and a half ago. I do hope to read again for fun someday!

An Unquiet Mind
by Kay Redfield Jamison

I've seen/read a bunch of good books by people with a variety of disorders....though my memory is a bit shot right now, so the names escape me. I do remember:

Life Without Ed: How One Woman Declared Independence from Her Eating Disorder and How You Can Too

I've heard this is quite popular in the ED (recovery) community. I haven't had a chance to read it yet.

If I think of more over the weekend, i'll post them up.

"Sickened": memoir of a woman's munchausen's by proxy childhood. Amazing insight into a rarely documented disorder.

also another one with a title that goes something like "The man who mistook his wifes head for a hat".... can't remember exactly.

Perfekt: "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat" by Oliver Sacks

I haven't read that, but I've always heard rave reviews for it. Definitely a book on my "must read" list as well.

You might like The Echo Maker by Richard Powers.

Provocative Therapy will make you laugh your butt off. It's at amazon.

I LOVE Oliver sacks. He's actually a neurologist, but he's written some fantastic books, mostly based off of his clinical experiences. Has anyone seen the movie Awakenings with Robin Williams and Robert DeNiro? That was based off of his book of the same title, which was fantastic as well!

Read this book during my first clinical position working with adolescents with TBI. This book got me thinking about clinical neuropsych and I've been heading in that direction ever since. Here are some more worth considering:

Anthropologist on Mars, Oliver Sacks
Into the Silent Land, Paul Broks
Phantoms in the Brain, V. S. Ramachandran
Defending the Cavewoman: And Other Tales of Evolutionary Neurology, Klawans
The Executive Brain: Frontal Lobes and the Civilized Mind, Elkhonon Goldberg

Now that all my applications are out I'm looking forward to reading again.
