Wondering if you guys have suggestions about any good books to read -- books that will both entertain and get your brain thinking a bit.

Last month, I read Einstein's Dreams by Alan Lightman. A very interesting read and talks about the different dimensions of time (of course, they only exist in the imagination), how time is measured and valued, etc. Also, it was a light read, and funny at times too.

What books have you read lately?

The best two books I've read in the past few years:

1) 'The End of Faith' by Sam Harris
2) 'A Short History of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson.

Two great books that will def. get you thinking.

2 books I am reading now:

The Art of War - Sun-tzu
-many people today along with historical figures have used the Art of War to plan strategy on the battlefield, in the business world, among many others

The Revolution: A Manifesto - Ron Paul
-whatever your political beliefs are, this logical piece will open your eyes to corruption of the two-party system.

If you are talking about fiction...

I am reading Albert Camus books like:
Downfall
Myth of the Sisyphus
The Plague
The stranger

All of these are great novels and I am currently reading all of them again (I love seeing what other philosopher's ideas are, like Albert Camus uses ideas called existentialism).

Another one I am going to read is A Mercy by Toni Morrison (the author of Beloved [another great novel to read]). A Mercy is brand new (released this month)! I also like history, so this book is going to be insane.

If you are talking about nonfiction and/or political propaganda read these:

Ron Paul's a Revolution
Audacity of Hope
Dreams from my Father
Losing Osama
Faith of my Fathers

Wow, thanks you guys! Great book suggestions. I will definitely pick one up very soon.😉

After being in England all summer, I became obsessed with English historical fiction. First I read The Constant Princess, then The Other Boleyn Girl, then Boleyn Inheritance, and now I'm finishing up The Last Wife of Henry VIII.
Soooo good 🙂

48 Laws of Power by Robert Greene
The Alchemist by Paulo Coehlo (Very short read, around 100 pages or so, but awesome)

And if you want to start thinking, read some of Dan Brown's books.

The Man Who Mistook His Wife for a Hat - Oliver Sacks

My physiology teacher refers to sections of this book in class. It is pretty interesting and entertaining.

Love this book! Read sections of it for a class and I had to pick it up.

Other nonfiction I've liked recently include:
Freakonomics - Steven Levitt
God is Not Great - How Religion Poisions Everything - Christopher Hitchens
The Vertue of Selfishness - Ayn Rand
Why Zebra's Don't Get Ulcers (really interesting book on stress theories) - Sapolsky

Fiction books read recently and are enjoyable
The Red Tent - Anita Diamant
Beloved - Toni Morrison
The Satanic Verses - Salman Rushdie (also loved Shame, another one of his books)

I like to improve myself by reading "How to win friends and influent people of Dale Carnagies". Also," Think and Grow Rich of Nepoleon Hill" Both books are classic and highly recommended for Pharmacy school.

The Ephemera Series by Anne Bishop...Actually, everything by Anne Bishop. I <3 her books.

Oh boy, I better read Dale carnagie's book so I can win an arguement next time...

Big fan of The Stranger by Albert Camus and The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Dan Brown books will definitely get you thinking. I thought Angels and Demons was better than the Da Vinci Code. He offers a variety of other books also; I have never been disappointed. Also a fan of Barbara Kingsolver, especially The Poisonwood Bible.

I've heard that the Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger is really good, but I haven't read it yet. Apparently they are making a movie about it to release in Dec / Jan. It was highly recommended to me.

I just finished reading "Spindle's End" by Robin McKinley. I like to think that I am not reading to improve my language skills anymore, so now I only read books that catch my fancy. Some books I've read in recently are
1. The Andromeda Strain, by Michael Crichton (suspenseful, but I thought the end was disappointingly anticlimactic)
2. Medicine's 10 Greatest Discoveries (interesting read. The story of penicillin reads better than a spy novel)
3. The Chronicles of Pantouflia (19th century fantasy book for children. Very good nevertheless)
4. Airframe by Michael Crichton
5. James and the Giant Peach (I hadn't read it before!)

Currently reading "Transcending - Reflections of Crime Victims" by Howard Zehr. On my "To Read" list are "How the Immune System Works" and "The Man Who Tasted Shapes." And if you haven't read Lord of the Rings, drop everything you're doing and go read it now!

That book is crazy! I don't know if you know, but Toni Morrison released A Mercy a couple days ago. I want to read it but I can't until next week!!

Oh I'll definitely have to look into that. I've read all her books and I love her writing style.

Not a book, but The Economist makes for good reading. I found The World Without Us by Alan Weisman to be interesting, then again, I'm interested in these post-apocalyptic ideas. It just went paperback, check it out.

Anyone read the Twilight series??
Those are some good books 🙂🙂

I actually just put Twilight on hold at my library at home to read over Thanksgiving break! I am a huge Harry Potter fan, so I am looking forward to reading Twilight because many of my friends who like HP like Twilight.

You will love it! All of the books are amazing..and yes, if you are a Harry Potter fan I'm sure you will love these books!

At my previous workplace, most of my coworkers had read the Twilight books and convinced me to read them as well. The books have many flaws, but they're really interesting. I think you'll enjoy them, too.

That's awesome!! I'm trying to convince my boyfriend to read them...but he doesn't see the what the big deal is about a fictional vampire that doesn't bite people!! I tell him he is missing out 🙂

I read Twilight. Didn't like it, didn't hate it. I do think it's highly overrated. I demand a bit more from my literature.

As for my recommendations...anything by Neil Gaiman. Good stuff.

Well,I am kinda odd...I like weightloss memoirs I'm reading one right now. It's My Half-Assed Life by Jannete Fulda.Helps me to pull through rough time in terms of weightloss.

Can anyone think of any books that will help me learn a little more about the field of pharmacy? I just read a book on MTM but this book was honestly a little over my head. I'm trying to get some hands on stuff as well but books are always nice. Any recommendations?
