Hi there. Can anyone please advise me about which cytology book to choose between Practical Principles of Cytopathology by DeMay (baby one) and Cytology: Diagnostic Principles and Clinical Correlates by
Edmund Ciba.
What I want is a concise, not so texty book. Thanks.

most peeps read what is known as "baby DeMay" in residency, although I think everyone should at least do a once through on the 2-vol. set. If you sat down and just read it from front to cover, the small book would take a couple days and 2-vol. maybe a week. Personally Ive read 5 different cytology texts completely and still somewhat suck, so books only take you so far. Hence the "ART and Science of Cytolopathology".

Agreed. Get the big two-volume DeMay. I am cytopath fellowship-trained and certified and I never bothered with the baby DeMay. I read the big DeMay and Bibbo texts cover-to-cover (multiple times), and I think if I had to choose one, it would be the big DeMay.

I too love the big 2-volume deMay, especially because he is quietly witty; however, the OP wants a not-so-"texty" book.... therefore baby deMay is the best bet.

Cibas's text is a good text which touches upon the major aspects of cytology. It's easy to read and one can get through the book in a week. Clearly DeMay is much more comprehensive with many more images. So, it really depends on what you want to get out of cytology. DeMay is more of an atlas...great book to have if you're going to concentrate your career in cytology.
