Good EM podcasts

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
definitely not free, but emrap is awesome. worth the $$$. if you are a member of emra, it is free.

Also not free but audiodigest emergency medicine.

Keeping up in Emergency medicine. Also free through I tunes. Awesome.

Not if you're a med student. Agree w/ EMcrit. ERcast is also good. I also like ICU Rounds, and Emergency Medicine Cases.

lol, isn't it only $55?

A drop in the bucket compared to a 300k education.

Oh my goodness -LOVE- ICU Rounds... I hope I get to meet Jeffrey Guy someday, I may or may not act like a groupie 😍

Chicago ToxCast stopped earlier this year, but there's a good 20+ podcasts that are interesting, entertaining if you're at all interested in the Tox side of EM.

Anyone know if a student subscription to EmRAP lets you download the podcasts?

I'd be willing to shell out $55, but only if I can download.

What happened to the Chicago Toxcast? Why did they stop? Someone should step up and do some more toxcasting. Bellevue maybe? Bobby Hoffman, i'm looking at you.

Funny you say that, because UMass just started a new tox podcast that includes discussions on hot tox topics, tox in the news, and tox pearls. It's geared toward EM residents, fellows, and attendings, but med students interested in EM would probably like it too. Here's the link: http://toxtalk.org/

More episodes to come soon, including one on dabigatran that is currently in the works. Future episodes will also include interviews with toxicologists. If you like them, please leave comments and subscribe. If you have suggestions for topics you'd like to see or ideas for improving the podcast, those are appreciated too.

For those who want to check out Chicago Toxcast, which I too am sad to see that it is now apparently defunct, here is their link: http://web.me.com/mmycyk/chicagotoxcast/Podcast/Podcast.html

Also, Oregon has a tox podcast that is a tape of their monthly journal clubs. Some of the episodes have a lot of background noise and are hard to hear, but their podcast is well worth checking out. They cover relevant tox topics in great depth. They haven't put up a new episode since June, but it seems like they take the summers off based on previous years, so hopefully they'll put up some new episodes soon. Here's their link: http://www.emergencyresidency.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=63&Itemid=134

If anyone knows of any other tox podcasts, please post them, because I've listened to all of these already.

This is very self serving (see my signature line) but its worked for me. If you are looking to supplement (not replace) your reading- start listening to podcasts. There are a bunch of free and low cost podcasts that will teach you a lot about EM. You can listen to them in the car or while you work out- they have pretty much replaced listening to the radio for me while I drive. I learn a ton and I put my time in my car to good use.
Ones I recommend- EM:RAP and EMA- join EMRA and you can get them for free. EMCrit is awesome and talks about EM critical care (emcrit.org and on iTunes). For others- see my website linked in my signature line- I just did a post on the podcasts that I find helpful.

Does anyone listen to EMPEM? I tried once, but the first 10 minutes were nothing but bad british small talk w/ like one useful bit of information. Just couldn't take it and had to stop. Anyone know if it gets better?

Yes, I've listened to a few of them. I don't like it as much as some of the other podcasts that people have listed in this thread, but it does have the advantage of focusing just on kids. I suggest just fast-forwarding through all the banter; that's what I do. You might want to try UW EM Grand Rounds too. They have a bunch of pedi EM episodes. (Look it up in the Itunes store.) Also, UVA has a podcast in Itunes U with a bunch of pedi episodes, and what I like about their podcast is that they include the slides as well.

I thought the same thing about this podcast. Luckily someone at my program started a brand new pem podcast that's free on iTunes. It's much better and chock full of good learning material. Down side is that there are only two episodes so far. Bit there are more to come.

Search for PEM ED in iTunes.

I've listened to pretty much all of these, and for the med student level I'd say EM Basic is pretty good. Most of the rest are probably above med student level, but I think you could get a lot out of ER Cast by Rob Orman too. It's not at such a level that you'd be overwhelmed like a lot of the critical care ones

Yeah, I agree that EMBasic is the best choice for a medical student. I think it's geared more toward med students than residents, actually.

I also wanted to let everyone know about a new tox podcast that I stumbled upon from the Journal of Medical Toxicology. They only have one episode so far, but hopefully there will be more. The Oregon PCC podcast has a new episode as well. 👍
