* 2 years of Hospice and Palliative Care Patient Volunteering - go to community clinics and spend one on one time with hospice patients (managed patient load of 1 to 4 patients, visited weekly, for 2 years)

* Clinical Research Volunteer - go into physician's offices and recruited patients for clinical research studies ( 3 days a week, 5 hours each day, for 2 months).

* Clinical Research Intern - recruit patients, draw and process blood samples to be analyzed for the clinical research study (full-time for 3 months)

* 100 hours of Orthopedic Surgery shadowing ( Every Wednesday morning surgical load (7:30-12) for almost 4 months)...some holidays in between

* 150 hours of Internal Medicine/Pulmonology shadowing (Every Friday morning for 6 months) *** Recommendation from this physician

* I have my EMT Basic license but was not able to use it because most of the agencies in my area wanted full time EMT-Bs. I view it as a positive experience, even just the class, because it exposed me to the healthcare profession.

Seems good enough to me. Although, you didn't list hours.

Very sweet. Nice mix of service and shadowing. You've served others and seen what it is to practice medicine with a little clinical research scut thrown in. 👍

Your clinical experience and shadowing both look fine to me.

It's posts like this that scare me. I only have about 200 clinical volunteering hours over the course of a year (through the clinical care extender program) and 25 hours shadowing an emergency medicine doc.

I'm a second year/sophomore and also work 30 hours a week, but I don't feel like that is much of an excuse to not have "fine" extracurriculars like the OP.

You're doing fine. Keep it up and get some research in there.

Man, OP, you got feedback from LizzyM and Cat in the same thread. Rest easy tonight. 😀
