Good Enough for EM ?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
If you want to be in Chicago go ahead and apply to all of the programs. The score isn't the greatest, but you can still make it up with your EM rotations and your clinical grades. I would definitely recommend doing a rotation at any chicago program your interested in. Also, take step 2 early if you get the chance.

The nice thing about EM is that programs don't look at numbers alone, so it gives you a chance to sell yourself with your intangible strengths. If you have questions about specific programs feel free to PM me, or you can also do a search on Chicago programs, this has been talked about atleast the last two years.

Question:

197/80 on Step 1. With this type of score what EM residency program in chicago should one apply to?

Thanks

I would suggest rotating at one (or more) of your "top" choices. I did a EM rotation at Resurrection (loved it!) and a toxicology rotation at UIC (tox is an EM fellowship and the PD of UIC's EM residency is active in the toxicology group. Loved that rotation too!). I think that the folks at both of these programs knew me far better than those at programs I had just applied to.

If you let people get to know you with MS4 rotations, I think your chances are likely to improve - especially if you perform well.
