Here’s my situation. I’m graduating this December w/ a BS in Biology minor in Chemistry , applying 2020 cycle (gap year). 22 y/o white male in Texas. I will be graduating with a ~3.6 GPA. Haven’t taken the MCAT yet (I know that’s a critical piece). EC’s at time of applying will be:
~100 hours shadowing 3 different specialties,
~ 300 hrs hospice volunteering,
~50 hrs hospital volunteer,
~150 hrs habitat for humanity volunteer,
~ 1.5 years of Scribing in the ER,
and ~ 2.5 years of research over Alzheimer’s w/ 1 publication (possibly 2, will know this summer).
LOR’s will be good.
My question is, with an average MCAT along with my EC’s and LOR, is my GPA high enough for an acceptance? I plan on applying both MD/DO and focusing on primary care. If it is not high enough, should I do a MS program or a post-bac or just continue working on my EC’s and building a strong application?
Thanks in advance!

Texas is considered a very lucky state. Your GPA is fine, even better if you maybe have an upwards trend (?)

Just focus on the MCAT... If you get around a 510ish you should be fine.

Good lucK!

It should be a 3.7+ but my freshman year I had a 3.0 semester. Since then I’ve maintained a 3.5 or higher.
