Looking to get a decent Ultrasound for cheap. Yes, I know the picture quality won't be that great, but my budget is limited right now. I'm looking to purchase one for $4k or less, something portable, decent enough for some Ultrasound Guided injections. Looking into Butterfly or VScan (there's also an Air that's cordless?) by GE. Any pros/cons to them? Anything anyone else recommends?

I have a Vscan air. Image quality is adequate for most therapeutic injection guidance. Probably wouldn’t want to use it for diagnostic work but I’m not good enough with ultrasound to be a good judge. Links wirelessly with iPad (or iPhone). Able to upload to PACS or store images locally but doesn’t seem to have the ability to label structures on the image.

Just to chime in on this topic, I got a Sonoque C5PL about a year ago. Works OK for what it is (clunky app). Unfortunately battery failed by end of year 1 despite minimal usage in clinic (I'm talking about once a week maybe). Battery is usually charged to 70-80% and kept off charger otherwise. Problem is once battery starts dying, the probe barely lasts a day on standby after a full charge. It became unreliable to do ultrasound injection since I don't know how much juice might be available until I turn it on.

Was able to ship it back for a warranty service... supposedly battery was swapped but big lack of communication. I constantly had to probe them to see if the item is ready (no ultrasound for 2 weeks already).

Take home after this experience is don't invest in a portable probe with built in rechargeable battery because it will need replacement much sooner than a wired version.

Is a subscription required to use the VScan Air?

No. That’s why I picked it.

Here is a popliteal DVT from shortly after I got the unit. You can also see the nerve pretty nicely in cross section.
