I got a D in Organic Chemistry II this past semester. I am taking it over the summer and I was wondering if it would be a good idea if I were to obtain a letter of recommendation from the teacher? I am not worried that I can get an A in the class because I am determined and this past year I just had some personal issues that I let ruin everything. I was thinking if I did this it would look like a great turnaround from before. What do you think?

If the prof knows you well enough to write a good letter and you are retaking the same prof then that should be ok I think.

I think that is a great idea b/c a LOR from a teacher whose course you failed and re-took says alot in my opinion. I plan to do the same thing in a HARD mamallian anatomy lab I took. Failed it with a D and got a B second time around. I think its a good idea. My 2 cents... 👍

As long as the prof knows that you're capable of better and the grade misrepresents you

Don't get the letter unless you say the following statement (or in another form) when asking.

"Professor X, can you write me a GOOD reference letter for medical school?"

If s/he says yes, then continue, if s/he hesitates after asking what you got in the class, then stop, turn around, and leave.

it's actually a different teacher but i still think it would look good..

Procure the A before asking. Are you taking the OChem II at the same school?

well yeah..I wouldn't ask without getting the grade. Yes, I am taking it at my school.
