Good luck to everyone tomorrow taking the test

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
First time taking it. I don't think I've had a test ever where I could so quickly and certainly say that I had no idea what the answer was to a question.

Good news is the material mostly looked pertinent, and already can see how the lecture schedule will adress lots of these topics. Looking forward to the feedback too!

wow. afternoon session was a b***ch. good thing it doesn't count for me yet.

First time for the inservice exam for me.
I thought the morning session had a good deal of general medicine and basic physiology that I at least had some clue about.
Afternoon session...I have to agree with Pinky. Tough.
I do think that the boards are doable in three years.

That second part ate everyone's lunch. I may be planning a return trip to the boards next year along with several of my classmates. Even a guy who scored a 47 in my class last year said this one might have taken him down.

I finished the afternoon section in less than 2 hours since I had NO idea how to even narrow down the answers. I learned in that situation to put "c" and move on a long time ago. Medical school and internship didn't prepare me for what I faced in the afternoon.

I agree that the morning section was OK. Even though it was my first time to take the exam, I felt like I was answering my fair share right.

I kept thinking, geez I need to learn soooooo much in the next three years!

also my first time with the exam. morning session done in 2 hours. a suprising amount of gen med. afternoon session, just guessed at a lot of them. hoping that i'll rock it next year and the year after.

Can any of you veterans of the inservice explain the scoring. What does getting a 47 mean?
Thanks

The test is scored on a curve and a weighted score is given to you with a cutoff determined to be the passing score. Last year it was 34. A 47 means you absolutely rocked the exam and are top 1-2% in the nation.

That afternoon session was difficult. I thought the exam was not curved when taking it for the certification. Any other recent grads take the test and want to say how they felt?

I agree with UT.. a 47 means you rocked the **** out of the exam.. Unbelievable score.... someone who gets a score like that should have no problems passing the exam when it comes up for real.. You do forget detaisl that you need on the tip of your brain during the in training exam. In order to do well on the exam once again.. study all of the key words. write them out.. memorize details thats what they will ask you.. The actual board exam for real is a sub set of questions from the exam.. So lets say there are 360 questions on the exam.. only 300 will be scored for the aba exam... and a 3 digit score will be generated.. and a 209 is passing.. thats the magic number but for the 2 digit score the whole exam is scored... confusing.. i know..

man that was one tought test.... especially the afternoon session. Atleast I had the weekend to look forward to.

Morning session good. Afternoon session bad. You know it's bad when you don't even TRY to figure out the answer. "Do I know what XYZ is? Nope." Circle "c" and move on. LOL.

After telling my attending how much more difficult the afternoon session was compared to the morning session (which was my feeling last year as well), he mentioned that the ABA may be planning on making the morning session the "recertification" exam for licensed practicing anesthesiologists......I guess in a few years, license recertification will have to be obtained via a test....Anyone else hear such a thing?

Cheers,
TRG

Recertification is every ten years via a written exam. I would be ecstatic if the morning exam was all I have to look forward to for recert.

I heard for recertification and licensure soon you will have to retake usmle step 1.

anyone who appplies for recertification who cant sit in and pass some calculus and organic chemistry does not deserve to be recertified.. Lets be upfront about this

sounds like jetpropilot cant see i was being sarcastic again

but thats awesome that you had the highest grade in your engineering calculus class with an audiorium filled with students.. I did not know calculus was such a popular class that they would devote an audiorium to it.. anyway i had the second highest score in both organics in 2 audiorium filled classes.. class was about 170 people . the only guy who beat me was my peurto rican friend who actually had switched from engineering.. man was that guy smart he is a pharmacist now. I could never do better than that guy, we studied together and actually the competition made us better people and students.

Takes 2-3 months for scores to return to the departments.

Well Jet and Justin, I'm very proud of your scholastic achievements but I bet neither of you got the highest mark in Bowling. Top that one suckers.

WE'RE NOT WORTHY!! WE'RE NOT WORTHY!!!!

If I had to do it over again I wouldda majored in something other than science and just fulfilled the prerequisites for pre-med. If you look up "not well rounded" in Websters, you'll see my picture. :scared:

me and my friend were correcting the professor while he was putting up reactions on the board.. I wo uld raise my hand and say.."your missing some electrons chief!!!" he would reply after looking at it for 5 seconds.. "Oh thats right, thanks"
