Good morning everyone,
I recently got into UCLA DGSOM, and I am very interested in neurosurgery. I wonder if any aspiring neurosurgeons could give me some insights on which faculty is a good mentor. I am pretty much open to any neuro-sub specitalties. Thank you.

I would probably wait until you start medical school and then reach out to your school's neurosurgery interest group. They usually know which faculty members have placed for med students or are good advisors, etc.

Focus on getting good grades at first. You can reach out to the NSG PD director to see if you can shadow some NSGs in your free time.

Current DGSOM student. I'm not sure about who is the best person to contact as a mentor in the NSGY department, but during your MS1 year you'll be able to contact "specialty ACEs" who are the best point of contact for your exact question. They'll be plenty of opportunities to connect w/ the dept. early. Also, when you get to DGSOM for the student organization fair, there should be a NSGY interest group table and they also can be a valuable resource for you.

Best,
